Three of the country’s top five primary schools are in London. The data was shared by school guide, and shows brilliant primary education across the capital.
The top spot was given to village school Christ Church Primary School, Hampstead. It was inspected and found to be outstanding by Ofsted in 2023 before Ofsted changed its system of grading.
Extracts from the report read "Christ Church Primary provides an education for its pupils that is exceptional in every way". It adds: "The bedrock of the school’s excellence is the highly ambitious curriculum."
The school which made the third highest position on the list went to St James' Roman Catholic Primary School, Orpington. The school prides itself on subscribing to 'British values' which includes encouraging kids to partake in learning about democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty as well as mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs.
While Fox Primary School, in Notting Hill - which infamously small catchment area of 92 metres came fourth. School guide formed its rankings based on nationwide government numbers - including progress scores, SATs results and performance data - as well as Ofsted inspection reports, accurate catchment area mapping and parental feedback.
How are schools judged?
A spokesperson for School Guide said: "We’ve crunched the official government progress and assessment data, analysed the Ofsted reports, mapped the catchment areas and even canvassed parental opinion. Our Top 200 English School League Tables offer you the best chance to view a complete performance picture for any school in England."
Primary schools are also judged by the Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills (Oftsed). It's a non-ministerial government department that keeps an eye on services that care for children and young people.
A primary school usually inspected every four years, based on the quality of education, behaviour, personal development, and leadership. Schools are then judged on a four-point scale: Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement, and Inadequate.
