Adverts criticising Elon Musk put up on Tube trains and at bus stops are to be removed by Transport for London (TfL). Several adverts criticising Musk, the richest man in the world, likening him to a Nazi, were stuck up on the transport network.
TfL has said that these adverts "were not authorised" by them and will be removing any found on trains and buses and warned that flyposting is criminal damage. Many included images of him making a controversial gesture at a Trump rally following the US President's inauguration, as pictured above.
One advert on a Victoria line train was promoting a phoney perfume brand named 'Elon's Musk'. It featured a picture of a bottle with a swastika on it and a picture of Musk doing the hand gesture he made on January 20 at the Trump rally.
Beneath the name of the perfume read 'Parfum de 1939' - the first year of the Second World War - and "Pour w*****s".
Another advert seen on a different London Underground train also features a photo of Musk's controversial gesture as well as a graph showing the falling share price of the tech billionaire's electric car company Tesla since January. The title reads "Hate doesn't sell. Just ask Tesla."
Above ground, there was also a large poster stuck up on a bus stop in Leyton High Road. This advert targeted Musk's social media platform X, formerly Twitter, which he bought in October 2022. It reads, "Delete your account. If the bar lets Nazis in, it's a Nazi bar." Beneath this is another photo of Musk's controversial gesture.
TfL confirmed none of the adverts were authorised by the organisation. A TfL spokesperson told MyLondon: "These posters were not authorised by TfL nor our advertising partners and we have instructed our teams and contractors to remove any that are found on our network."
Regular inspections are carried out by TfL at its stations, train and bus fleet, bus shelters and signal, removing all unauthorised labels and posters. It owns thousands of panels for advertising, which are regularly checked for instances of flyposting by its staff, cleaning contractors and advertising partners.
The organisation warned that flyposting is criminal damage. As soon as any unauthorised items are reported they are expeditiously removed, they said.
