Tesco has issued an apology to its customers as it confirms the discontinuation of one of its fridge essentials in all UK stores, following enquires from shoppers about the missing product on social media.
A former Twitter user posted, "Can I ask @Tesco why you don't sell the six pints of milk anymore? Certainly not home delivery."
In response, Tesco's representative confirmed the removal of the item and expressed regret for the inconvenience: "Good afternoon, thanks for getting in touch. Tesco British Whole Milk 3.408L, 6 Pints has been discontinued. I'm sorry for any disappointment."
The decision to stop stocking the six-pint milk bottles was actually made back in 2023, with a spokesperson explaining that it was part of efforts to cut down on store waste.
They said: "We phased out six-pint bottles of milk back in 2023 to reduce wastage, as there were higher levels of waste on that product size."
They also highlighted that four-pint bottles offer "the same great value per pint," and mentioned recent price reductions: "Especially as we have reduced milk prices twice in recent weeks."
When the discontinuation happened in 2023, another customer reached out: "@Tesco have you stopped selling six pint bottles of semi skimmed milk? Coming up as unavailable on app and none on shelf in store this morning."
Several people expressed their confusion on social media, unable to find the weekly essential in their local shops. One queried, "Any idea why six pints of milk never seem available for online orders?"
Another voiced frustration, stating: "I buy lots of milk, but it's annoying having to pay more by purchasing four-pint bottles."
A customer alleged that Tesco had removed the staple to "milk more money from customers with smaller cartons", while another declared they would be switching to Aldi for their shopping needs.
