A North London school has been forced to close following a mass brawl among students which led to disinformation circulating. Duke’s Aldridge Academy, Tottenham, confirmed there was a ‘relatively minor scuffle’ between two pupils earlier today (Monday, March 10) which escalated when ‘other students became involved’.
However suggestion a knife was used is ‘categorically untrue’, the school said. It added that it is liaising with local police officers. The details of the brawl are unclear, but the school ‘will be open as normal tomorrow’.
In a tweet the school said: “We can confirm there was an incident at the school today, where a relatively minor scuffle between two students escalated quickly and other students became involved. We want to be really clear that any reports of a knife being used are categorically untrue. We have been in contact with all our parents to let them know about the situation, and we also contacted local police, who attended and helped our staff to deescalate the situation - we are grateful for their support.
“We understand how worried many parents and carers have been and would like to reassure them that the safety of our staff and students is our priority in school. That is why we decided to send our students home this afternoon (March 10), to restore further calm. Our focus now is on taking steps to ensure an incident like this does not occur again and on making sure that our students can get back to their learning as quickly as possible. The school will be open as normal tomorrow and will be in touch with our parent community with further updates.”
The Met police was contacted for comment.
