Person dies in accident with High Street closed

A person has died following a crash in South East London this morning (Thursday, March 13). Police and multiple ambulance crews were called to High Street, West Wickam just after 12.40am to reports of a person injured on the road.

The person died at the scene. The A232 was shut off between Station Road and Ravenswood Avenue and is currently still closed in both directions whilst enquiries take place.

Traffic is being diverted up Station Road and via Manor Park Road and Ranvenswood Crescent, according to live tracker Inrix. High Street is also cordoned off to pedestrians.

A spokesperson from London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 12.42am today (13 March) to reports of a person injured in the High Street, West Wickham.

We sent resources including ambulance crews and an advanced paramedic. Despite the best efforts of our teams, the patient sadly died at the scene."

The Metropolitan Police has been contacted for more information.
