Paul Danan's cause of death confirmed after health struggles

Hollyoaks actor and reality TV star Paul Danan's cause of death has been announced at the opening of a inquest into how he died. Mr Danan, who was born in Leytonstone, was found dead at his home in Bristol on January 15 aged 46.

The inquest into his death opened at Avon Coroner’s Court this morning (Tuesday, March 11) where it was confirmed he died from a cocktail of drugs including cocaine and heroin. Coroner's officer Alexis Camp told the coroner the primary cause of death was 'combined toxicity of heroin, methadone, codeine, pregabalin, cocaine and zopiclone, with a secondary contributory finding of benzodiazepine.

Mr Danan was found unresponsive at his flat and paramedics called at around 5.20pm on January 15. His partner Melissa Crooks formally identified Mr Danan to paramedics and police at the scene.

Paul Danan starred as Sol Patrick from 1997 to 2001 on Channel 4's Hollyoaks. He was later known for his reality TV appearances, including on Celebrity Big Brother and Celebrity Love Island.

His management team broke the news of his in a heartfelt statement, saying: "It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news of the passing of Paul Danan at just 46 years old." They remembered him as a shining light, citing his remarkable talent, kind heart, and unforgettable television presence.

They added: "Known for his television presence, exceptional talent, and unwavering kindness, Paul was a beacon of light to so many. His untimely departure will leave irreplaceable voids in the lives of all who knew him."

This news comes just months after Paul faced a health scare. He had been rushed to hospital and required CPR due to respiratory failure linked to his vape addiction. At the time, his family had been warned that his condition was dire, and "he might not make it", reportsthe Mirror.

During his week-long stay in intensive care, Paul contracted pneumonia, a condition he attributed to his long history of smoking. Recounting the experience, he said: "I'm upstairs puffing away on my vape then suddenly I lost my breath and collapsed. My family called for an ambulance and started giving me CPR, then police arrived and took over before paramedics took me to hospital. I was on a machine in ICU and ended up with pneumonia. My family were warned I might not make it through the night. I'm so lucky."
