M25 to close this weekend with diversion map showing route in full

1 month ago 22

A section of the M25 is to be closed for the whole of this weekend. Drivers who are heading to London and the surrounding areas this weekend are being warned to expect delays and disruption.

The M25 will be closed from 9pm this evening (Friday, March 7) until 6am on Monday (March 10) between Junction 10 Wisley and Junction 11 Chertsey. Drivers are being urged to plan their journeys in advance, ahead of the closure.

Those travelling to both Gatwick and Heathrow airports, and the Channel ports may be affected, warn National Highways.

The closures will allow contractors to safely demolish and remove an old bridge which is no longer needed after work to upgrade the gyratory at Junction 10 was completed last month.

Drivers who are travelling clockwise will be diverted onto the A3 northbound at Junction 10 and then the A245 and A320 before re-joining the M25 at Junction 11.

Those going in the opposite direction will be diverted via the A320 southbound at Junction 11, before heading onto the A245 and the A3 and re-joining the M25 at Junction 10.

There will also be a second full weekend closure later in the month from 9pm on Friday, March 21 to 6am on Monday, March 24.

The closure has been planned months in advance to ensure it doesn’t conflict with any holiday periods or key events nearby, say National Highways. The Junction 10 improvement scheme will increase the number of lanes to make journeys safer and improve traffic flow.

It will also make it easier and safer to enter and exit the M25, provide safer entry roads for Wisley, Pryford, Old Byfleet and RHS Garden Wisley, as well as reducing the pollution caused by traffic jams.

Full Diversions

The local diversion route is the same for both directions:

Junction 10 to Junction 11 - clockwise

If you’re travelling clockwise:

  • You will be diverted from the M25 at junction 10 to join the A3 northbound
  • At Painshill, take the A245, then the A320
  • Rejoin the M25 at junction 11

Junction 11 to Junction 10 - anticlockwise

If you’re travelling anticlockwise:

  • You will be diverted from the M25 at junction 11 to join the A320 southound
  • Then take the A245 to Painshill
  • At Painshill, take the A3 southbound to rejoin the M25 at junction 10

Avoiding the closure by taking the M25 via the Dartford Crossing may also be quicker, say National Highways.
