London's Underground's loneliest part where you can 'get carriage to yourself'

4 weeks ago 18

Riding the Tube might be the fastest way to navigate the capital, as it connects numerous neighbourhoods with incredible efficiency.

But those living in London are all too familiar with the morning and evening rush hours that see our beloved underground railway transform into a packed can of humans, where the concept of personal space is swiftly forgotten.

However, even amid the chaos, there are rare moments of calm, instances when one could think they've scored a private journey on what's come to be known as London's 'loneliest' stretch of the Underground.

It was on social media, more precisely a Reddit thread, where this insight emerged after a user asked for recommendations on where to conduct a photoshoot on the tube without the intrusion of a crowd.

The Hainault Loop on the Central line has been dubbed the 'loneliest stretch' of the Tube

The user inquired: "Heya. I am hoping to take some photos of a friend on the tube, but preferably want as empty a carriage as possible. I am guessing it is best to ride out to the end of a Tube line at a remote hour, but which lines and which times do you think would be best? Thanks!"

Fellow Reddit members were quick to chime in with suggestions. The common suggestion was the Hainault Loop on the Central line, which is exceptionally serene outside the peak hours.

One contributor suggested: "Hainault Loop of the Central Line, any time away from rush hour."

Another person chimed in with support: "Yeah I was there last weekend and had it to myself."

Despite the Hainault loop's popularity for peaceful travel, other Tube routes throughout London also received mentions for their relative quietness.

One commuter shared their peaceful journey on the Northern line to High Barnet, saying: "I used to get the Northern to High Barnet at 8am on weekdays for singing tuition. Almost always had the train to myself after Finchley Central. I used to warm up after it emptied, there's something very liberating about singing top note on public transport."

The quieter hours on the Waterloo and City line were highlighted as another tranquil route by one user, while another recommended the District line to Olympia as a serene travel option.
