Every since the HBO series of Harry Potter was announced, fans of the wizarding world have been waiting patiently for more information. Since John Lithgow confirmed that he will play Albus Dumbledore in the new series, fans have been speculating about who will play the other characters in the series with plenty of rumours.
Fans are also discussing how will certain characters be portrayed in the TV show compared to the films, with the series set to have 10 episodes per season and each season adapting one of the seven books. This should allow the creators more time to expand on different characters and scenes that didn't give full prominence in the films due to their run times.
One beloved book character is the hot topic of conversation in fan forums. Ginny Weasley (who was played by Bonnie Wright in the films), Ron's younger sister and Harry's love interest, is a firm favourite of fans in the books.
However, her depiction in the films has come under considerable scrutiny, with many fans dubbing her character as "mopey". A Reddit thread named 'Hoping we get justice for Ginny!' is home to fan opinions on the character's casting and portrayal in the upcoming series.
One fan said: "Her book character was massacred in the film adaptation. I love book Ginny so much and how they portrayed her in the films will forever disappoint me— do you guys think they’ll do better this time around?" Another fan responded: "It could go either way depending on whether they've been taking notes about how people feel about the movies and what can be done better.
"With longer runtime, maybe we'll get some Ginny scenes added. There's some sibling comedy potential with the Weasleys that could be explored. That would be nice."
One fan pointed out that it was difficult to cast a child and predict what they will be like in years to come. While Harry and Ginny's romance isn't explored until the fourth book in the series, the director will have to consider the potential chemistry between the two actors when filming begins for book one.
A fan said: "The difficulty lies partly in casting the right kids, ones who will grow into their roles." Production of the first season will begin at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in summer 2025.
