Full list of City of London election candidates and polling stations

1 month ago 18

Residents and businesses in the City of London are being asked to vote in local elections on March 20. Despite all 25 wards being up for election, only 11 will be contested, meaning there will only be 55 out of 100 councillors being elected by voting. The others will automatically be re-elected.

Each ward within the City of London Corporation - the governing body of the Square Mile - elects one Alderman and two or more Common Councillors, depending on its population. There are currently 100 Common Councillors and 25 Aldermen serving as elected representatives, according to the City.

The City allows workers and residents to vote. Sole traders, partnerships and other qualifying bodies like LLCs and charities can also vote. They are allocated votes based on the size of their workforce.

Residents and businesses can vote in the upcoming local election

According to the City, 678,000 people are employed in the Square Mile and 8,600 are living there. Known as the Court of Common Council election, this ballot takes place every four years. In 2021, the election was pushed back a year due to Covid 19.

Becoming a Common Councillor is purely a voluntary role and it is not remunerated. Each councillor has an opportunity to serve on two or three committees made up of representatives from each of the various 25 wards.

Polls will open from 8am to 8pm. Proxy vote applications close at 5pm on Wednesday, March 12. A wardmote - a local meeting where you can hear from and ask candidates questions - will happen in each ward on March 19. The wards being contested and the candidates contesting them are:
