Eurostar trains suspended after WW2 bomb found on the tracks

All Eurostar trains have been suspended after a World War II bomb was found on railway tracks in France overnight.

Chaos has ensued for passengers at Gare du Nord in Paris this morning as all trains have been halted after a relic was found near St Denis amid works yesterday. 

All railway travel, including RER, regional, Eurostar and TGV services have been suspended until 10am, local media has reported.

A bomb squad - who have been working on the scene since 6am - are assessing the ongoing situation, French railway company SNCF said. 

The railway service said travel from the major French railway station would be halted until mid-morning at request of police.  

'We invite travelers to postpone their trip,; the SNCF said. 

An announcement on the Eurostar website had urged travellers to change their journey to a different day entirely. 

It reads: 'Due to an object on the tracks near Paris Gare du Nord, we are expecting disruption to our services this morning. 

'Please change your journey for a different date of travel'

The Gare du Nord is a major European transit hub, serving international destinations north of France as well as the main Paris airport and many regional commuters.

Bombs left over from World War I or World War II are regularly discovered around France but it is very rare to find them in such a people-packed location.

MailOnline has approached Eurostar and the SNCF for comment.
